Saved articles are stored in your own browser, not on our servers. There is no account, no email address and no profile: the list lives on the device you are using and disappears if you clear your site data. That is a deliberate design choice, not a missing feature.
Use it as a reading list. Long-form pieces on nutrition, land use or welfare law reward being read properly rather than skimmed, and having somewhere to put them makes it more likely you will come back.
How saving works
Selecting the save control on any article writes its identifier to your browser's local storage. Nothing is transmitted to us, so we cannot see what you have saved, cannot build a profile from it, and cannot lose it in a data breach. The trade-off is that the list does not follow you to another device or browser.
Privacy by default
The same principle runs through the site: no tracking pixels sold to advertisers, no cross-site identity graph, no requirement to identify yourself to read anything. Reading about factory farming, animal advocacy or diet change should not add you to somebody's marketing segment.
Keeping a list that survives
If you want a reading list that outlives your browser cache, use ordinary bookmarks, or subscribe to the weekly edition newsletter, which collects the most substantial pieces from each desk. Article URLs are permanent, so anything you bookmark today will still resolve years from now.

FAQ
- Why is my saved list empty on another device?
- Because saving is local to the browser you used. Nothing is stored on our servers, so there is no account to sign into and nothing to sync.
- Do I need an account to read VegEco?
- No. Every article, hub, comparison and guide is free to read without registering, in all 33 editions.
- Will clearing cookies delete my saved articles?
- Clearing site data or local storage will, yes. Use bookmarks for anything you cannot afford to lose.
- Can I save an article in one language and read it in another?
- Saved items belong to the edition you saved them in, because each edition publishes its own reporting rather than translations of the same piece.
